Jerry Seinfeld: Motivational Speaker
“Find something where you love the good parts and don’t mind the bad parts too much”
Life advice from comedy icon Jerry Seinfeld. This is one of the many lessons Seinfeld imparted on Duke University’s 2024 graduating class. His 16-minute speech is peppered with comical observations about college, the workforce, and life in general. And nothing is off limits—from Harvard, to AI, and even Frankenstein. There are a number of quotable moments but here is my personal favourite: “If you took a stupid job that you find out you hate and don’t leave, that’s your fault.”
Ryan Gosling Can’t Save Cinemas
Oversaturation of superhero movies, constant reboots, preachy messaging—all things that have been blamed for the post-pandemic decline in theatrical movie success. If that’s the case then why did an original comedic action film such as The Fall Guy, starring two of the most lovable Hollywood actors—Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, flop at the box office?
Was it bad marketing?
Was it a bad movie?
What about economics? Are ticket prices becoming unaffordable?
Has streaming become the new first window for movies?
Led by YouTube movie pundit, The Critical Drinker, this is an interesting discussion about the current state of cinema viewing through the lens of The Fall Guy’s (lack of?) success.
From the Media People Podcast Archives: Porter Novelli VP, Head of Digital Innovation & Integrated Media - Saeed Zaman
Both personally and professionally—Saeed Zaman is probably one of the most globalized individuals you’ll ever meet. Born in Pakistan, his family moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when he was just four. When it came time for University, Saeed applied to a number of schools in the United States, ultimately landing at Purdue University in Indiana. His media career started immediately after graduation when he was recruited by Starcom’s Chicago office. From there he would continue to grow. Senior level opportunities presented themselves taking Saeed to places such as Los Angeles, Dallas, Toronto, and Dubai. Saeed Zaman sits down to chat with about his media career that spans multiple cities in three countries across two continents, his passion for music, and the caution he was forced to employ in a country where western music was discouraged. This episode originally aired in May of 2021.
